Episode 4 of Leading the Charge opens with the team that used 12 POWRBANKs to power Billie Eilish’s emission-free headline set at Lollapalooza 2023. It’s one of three podcasts I’ve produced, each built for a very different audience.

The Challenge

Capture your audience quickly.

A show needs a recognizable identity, in intro of familiarity that can help reset the audience. Help them drop the stress of life and pull them into the episode. It has to hold up episode after episode. For a daily show, all of that has to hold up 365 times in a row. With so many podcasts out there, the topic has to tightly walk the line between broad and niche, and that is an exercise in branding.

The Insight

The opening sets the stage. A strong intro, a consistent look, and a clear format tells a listener what to expect and why it’s worth their time. Consistency is the key.

The Solution

Built end to end, from the first note to the final cut.

  1. Leading the Charge: an industry series for POWR2

I designed the brand identity and graphics, produced and voiced the show’s intro, direct and produce both the audio and video formats, edit every episode, and co-host with POWR2 co-founder Tim Doling. Guests come from equipment rental, construction, events, and clean energy.

  2. NFT 365: a daily show with a signature sound

As creative director, I produced and voiced the show’s intro and wrote and recorded its original music, plus created the social, video, and digital assets for a show that published every day from November 11, 2021 to November 11, 2022. This leaned heavily on 3D and I designed a VR gallery toward the end of the year.

  3. A Moving Tale: storytelling about storytelling

My own podcast, featuring guests including Justin Guarini, Larisa Miller, Anant Das, Nidhi Tewari, and Elaine Powell on what makes a story move people.

  1. Longform podcasts, short form clips

Each episode is cut into short recaps and vertical clips for social. One recording reaches people on the platforms where they already spend their time.

  2. Industry insights

The podcast became more than informational for the energy industry. It opened up relationships and conversations we might not have previously had, contributing to connections and sales.
